The Tandem Rolling Mill is a production line expressly dedicated to the cold finishing rolling process of steel coils coming from the hot rolling process.
The rolling line is controlled by the operators by acting on the controls installed on the appropriate pulpits. The line is made up of two macro-sections connected in series: 1. Feeding section;
Rolling section. In the feeding section, the coils are first deposited using an overhead crane on the appropriate accumulation and translation table (walking beam), they subsequently translate towards the loading cradle and are engaged on the primary unwinding reel.
The rear snubber is lowered and pressed against the coil to control its opening, after which, using the strap cutting device, the retention straps are cut away thanks to the transverse translation movement of the primary reel. Subsequently, the upper peeler device is lowered and, thanks to the joint action of the claw and the hydraulic pressure roller, the belt is opened;
using the hydraulic gripping jaws the tape is captured and guided. The jaws move on the tracks of the upper structure thanks to the hydraulic cylinder, they slide dragging the belt up to the inlet section. At the same time, the loading cradle on which the opening coil is positioned moves towards the inlet section, transporting the coil up to the secondary unwinding reel. The secondary unwinding reel engages in the coil thanks to the transversal translation movement. The rear snubber moves on the linear guides and presses on the roll to control the correct unwinding of the tape in the initial phase. The belt is introduced into the straightening unit, the lifting and lowering are adjusted according to the characteristics of the belt.

The tape proceeds towards the trimming unit where the heads and tails of the tapes are cut, then collected in the extractable trolley towards the rear area.
The belt proceeds to the welding machine, where the tail of the previous belt is connected to the head of the following belt to create a continuous belt. An initial electrowelding is carried out in automatic mode, after which, if necessary, a reinforcement weld is carried out manually. After the welding operation, the tape is fed into the machine called "floop", mainly composed of a spiral roller conveyor, an external basket, an internal basket in which the tape is wound.
The tape coming from the welding station is loaded into the floop and accumulated in the external basket; the external basket feeds the internal basket so that the strip coming out of the floop feeds the rolling section. The floop essentially acts as a buffer between the input and rolling sections, similar to a synchronization pit. The rolling section is placed in series successively
