Description

DESCRIPTION:
The spent grapes from the distillery (60% humidity by weight --- 1kg = 600 g of water + 400 g of dry matter) are dosed (the screw has an inverter drive) and passed to an elevator and another screw to be placed in the rotary dryer;
this has a diameter of 1800 mm and a length of 14000 mm; it is driven by a 5.5 kW VEM electric motor via a robust speed reducer. The hot air from the oven (1000°C) passes through it to cause the water inside the grapes to become steam.
The dried grapes (skin + seeds) come out at around 80° and 8-10% humidity (it is not a problem to have less humidity) and pass through a sieve via another screw and another elevator (year 2000). In the sieve we have the separation of the seeds (suitable for oil extraction) and the peels.
The movement of the skin (and seeds) takes place via cable conveyors (produced by AZA international and built in the year 2000);
the skin goes into the mill feed tank). From here they are dosed with a special belt driven by an inverter with a magnet that extracts any metal parts that could catch fire during milling. The hammer mill is new, built in 2000 with a 22 kW engine and is also suitable for cereals or other uses;
it is equipped with a 20 m2 sleeve air filter, complete with PLC for compressed air economization. The crushed skin (like talcum powder) is inserted into a 6 m3 storage tank using another elevator (also newly built in 2000).
Using another cable conveyor, the powder is placed in a small storage tank where it is dosed to the burner in the oven via an inverter-driven screw.
The steam coming out of the rotating tube is sucked in by an 11 kW fan and blown into a cyclone (with anti-acid coating);
the cyclone outlet is connected by an 800 mm diameter A/304 stainless steel tube to a scrubber to possibly clean the steam from dust. Instead of using the scrubber, a bag air filter completely in A / 304 stainless steel 480 m2, 480 bags full optional, complete with 15 kw aspirator, built in the year 2000 and ZERO working hours can be used.
Both exhausts are collected in a 950 mm diameter flue in A/304 stainless steel to reach a height of 20 metres.
The total installed power of the system is around 100 KW, but normally 40-50 KW is used (this means that all the motors are oversized).
The entire system is controlled by a new 2000 electrical panel complete with PLC for all the main functions.
The system capacity is 80-100 tons/24 hours of 60% wet grape distillery waste every 24 hours to be reduced to 10% moisture.
The plant operated only from August 2000 to February 2002, for a total of 670 hours.
Its normal use is for dried grapes exhausted from the distillation of grappa: grape seeds are an excellent source of oil, while the skins are used for animal feed or recently as biological soil fertilizers.
The system is however very versatile and robust, it can be used to dry a large quantity of substrates... such as brewery waste, vegetables, some cereals, algae, compost, soil etc.
Attached you will also find a photo of the decommissioning of the system in our building.
